Beloit Public Library Joins UW-Wisconsin Online MOOC
This October, join Beloit Public Library and the University of Wisconsin-Madison for a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), a free, four-week learning experience that investigates the impact of forests on humans. This non-credit MOOC will encourage you to discover how forests affect global climate and how forest ecosystems support human life, along with exploring threats to those ecosystems. “Forests and Humans: From the Midwest to Madagascar” begins on September 30, 2015, and all learners are welcome to participate. For more information or to sign up, visit moocs.wisc.edu or stop at the library for help.
The library is offering weekly group discussion meetings to further your understanding of the topic. The discussions will be on Tuesdays, October 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 7 p.m. in the public meeting room. Prior to the discussions, at 6 p.m., the weekly videos will be shown for those who have not viewed them on their home computers or who wish to see them on a big screen. For those who wish to take the course but do not have appropriate computer access, the library offers public computers available to anyone with a library card.
